LS Cable & System wins €35M turnkey subsea cable contract in Malaysia

South Korean LS Cable & System has won a KRW 60 billion (around €35 million) contract to deliver a submarine power grid that will connect Malaysia’s Langkawi Island to the mainland.

The contract was awarded by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and will see LS Cable & System construct a 132 kV submarine power cable that will enhance the island’s power infrastructure and ensure a stable, reliable electricity supply.

The South Korean company said it will manage the entire project lifecycle, including system design, material procurement, submarine cable manufacturing, and cable laying and installation.

“A key factor behind this award was our successful completion of the previous Langkawi project — demonstrating reliability, technical excellence, and consistent project execution,” LS Cable & System said. “This latest achievement strengthens our global reference portfolio as we continue expanding in the high-growth Asia-Pacific market.”

Earlier this month, LS Cable & System and compatriot Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) entered into a strategic agreement to jointly commercialize and globalize an advanced HVDC asset management system.

First deployment is expected at Korea’s West Coast Energy Highway, a large-scale grid connection project proposed to be built by 2040 to transmit 20 GW of offshore wind.
