MAN Rollo to supply generators for Helgoland LNG ferry

MAN Rollo signed a contract to supply three generator sets to the Fassmer shipyard in Berne, Germany. Fassmer is building the new Helgoland ferry for the operator AG Ems.

The Helgoland Ferry is being built in accordance with the environmentally-friendly “Blue Angel” standard. The ferry will use LNG as fuel, enabling soot particles, NOx and SOx, to be largely eliminated and CO2 emission to be reduced.

The ferry will be 79 m long, have a capacity of 1000 passengers and has been designed to have a cruising speed of 20 knots. The delivery of the vessel is planned for April 2015. The Helgoland Ferry will then provide an all-year-round service between Cuxhaven and Helgoland.

MAN Rollo will supply the generator sets that will serve as auxiliary generators. Additionally, the sets can be deployed as boost power for the main propulsion system. The new MAN E3262 LE202 engines are to be used for the generator sets.

These 500 Kw engines have been developed on the basis of the lean-burn combustion process. The sets meet the requirements of the classification society DNV-GL.
