Matrix Service Company said its unit, Matrix Service, has won the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) deal for Southwest Gas Corporation’s Southern Arizona LNG storage facility.

The Southern Arizona Reliability Project LNG storage and vaporization facility will include a 2.8 million gallon single containment LNG storage tank, as well as a 65,000 MCF/day vaporization unit.

The facility will be located near Valencia and Pantano Roads in the southeast portion of Tucson, and is aimed to serve as a backup system for over 280,000 Southwest Gas customers in Southern Arizona.

The facility will be the state’s first natural gas storage facility and is being built to improve gas supply reliability, Matrix Service said on Tuesday.

Matrix began preliminary engineering work earlier this year with groundbreaking planned for late summer 2017.

According to Southwest Gas Company’s website, the facility’s completion is expected in 2019.
