Mermaid to manage cruise-ship-turned-accommodation-vessel
Mermaid Marine Australia Limited (MMA), Australia’s marine services provider to the offshore oil and gas industry, has been awarded a contract for the operation and management of the accommodation vessel “Silja Europa”.
The contract will generate revenue of approximately A$105 million over the 12-month term and there is an option for the client to extend the contract.
The Silja Europa is a 201,8 meter cruise ferry which until recently has been operating as a leisure cruiser between Finland and Estonia.
The vessel has been specifically modified for this contract and will accommodate up to 1400 workers, including locally hired crew.
MMA Managing Director Jeff Weber said: “This contract is an example of the broad and innovative marine solutions which MMA can provide to its clients. MMA looks forward to working with the client to ensure a successful outcome in this and other contracts in which we are involved.”
The 201,8 meters long ship was built in 1993 by MEYER WERFT. At the time, the Silja Europa was dubbed “the world greatest cruise liner”.
