MES Hands Over Hanjin Chiba to Venus

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) completed and delivered a 56,000 dwt type bulk carrier MV “Hanjin Chiba” at its Chiba Works on 19th November, 2014 to Venus Ocean Navigation S.A., Panama.

This is the 7th ship of MES’s new generation of eco ships, the so called “neo56BC” design.

According to MES, the vessel incorporates the “Mitsui 56” electronically-controlled engine ensuring superior propulsive efficiency and fuel oil consumption.

The 190 meter-long vessel has four cranes and five cargo holds, designed for loading various cargos like coal, ore, grain, as well as lengthy/heavy cargo such as steel pipe and hot coil.

The bulker boasts a new form of the bow and stern enabling it to have optimal maneuverability in both rough sea as well as calm sea conditions.

The ship has low sulfur fuel oil tanks, which are designed for operation in ECA (Emission Control Areas).
