MMO: Last Call for Views on PTEC Project

People who want to put forward their views on the application from Perpetuus Tidal Energy Centre Limited (PTEC) should do so by emailing MMO before midnight on Friday 20 February 2015.

They should include the reasoning and rationale for their views in their consultation response.

The MMO received the application from PTEC on 29 November 2014 and a public consultation was opened on 23 December 2014. The consultation is in accordance with the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations.

A MMO spokesperson said: “We want to ensure that people provide their views and we encourage them to complete the consultation documents by the closing date.

“Following the consultation process, we will consider any representations received and ensure any outstanding matters are addressed before making a decision. We aim to determine marine licence applications with 13 weeks.”

PTEC has applied to the Marine Management Organisation and Isle of Wight Council (as the local planning authority).

The tidal technologies to be deployed at PTEC will be positioned in groups or arrays within an area of 5 km2. Export cables on the seabed will bring the electricity from the site to an onshore substation.

According to PTEC, if consent is granted, work will begin during 2016/2017 and is anticipated to last no longer than 18 months over a 3 year period.
