MMT & NetSurvey Attended GeoHab 2011 in Helsinki (Finland)

On Monday the 3rd of May the doors opened for GeoHab 2011 which was held in Espoo in the Helsinki metropolitan area. MMT attended as Silver Sponsors at the three-day conference and gave an oral presentation.

Duncan Mallace, Managing Director at NetSurvey Ltd and IVS 3D(UK) did also attend as a Silver Sponsor (IVS 3D UK) and held a presentation as well.

The main focus of the conference was: Development of New Methodologies to Map the Marine Environment in Support of Sustainable Ocean Management.

The scientific themes of GeoHab 2011 included:

-Habitat mapping of shallow seas

-Scale and variability in habitat distribution and diversity

-Geo-bio interactions

-Advances in optical remote sensing of marine habitats

Dr Helena Strömberg, Project Manager and Sara Claesson, Hydrographical Manager at MMT held an oral presentation about how to identify biogenic reefs from statistics of backscatter.

Duncan Mallace, Managing Director at NetSurvey Ltd and IVS 3D(UK) held a presentation about the latest software developments by IVS 3D to the Geocoder backscatter processing application – FMGT.

GeoHab (Marine Geological and Biological Mapping) has brought together scientists working on marine geological and biological mapping since 2001. This year GeoHab celebrates its 10th anniversary.
