MV Suilven Sinks off Suva, Crew Members Saved

At least 30 crew members were saved after a 1974-built vehicle ferry MV Suilven sank off the coast of Suva, Fiji, this afternoon, according to local media.

MV Suilven, operated by Suva-based shipping company Venu Shipping, started listing before it reached its destination in Suva.

The New Zealand-flagged vessel was operated by Caledonian MacBrayne for 21 years, after which it was sold to Venu Shipping and turned into a cargo boat.

As reported by Fiji TV, up to 34 crew members were rescued by nearby vessels.

The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji is currently investigating the case.
