Nakheel Plans to Build Artificial Reefs Off Dubai’s Coast (U.A.E)

Business & Finance

Nakheel laid out plans to build a line of artificial coral reefs off the Dubai’s coastline in a bid to attract more marine life.

The project is designed in part to revitalise fishing prospects in the Persian Gulf waters that lap at Nakheel-built isles shaped like palm trees and a map of the globe.

Building of over 500 reefs will start in a couple of months, likely utilizing a mixture of boulders and concrete constructions, said Nakheel chairman Ali Rashid Lootah.

Mr. Lootah didn’t reveal the amount of project cost, but stated it will not be a ‘big financial burden’ for the firm.
