NASSCO christens second LNG-ready tanker for APT

General Dynamics NASSCO on Saturday christened the second LNG-ready tanker for American Petroleum Tankers, currently under construction at the company’s shipyard in San Diego.

The ECO Class tanker, the Magnolia State, is the second of a five-tanker contract between NASSCO and APT, NASSCO said in a statement.

The contract calls for the design and construction of five 50,000 deadweight ton, LNG-conversion-ready product carriers with a 330,000 barrel cargo capacity,

Construction works on the Magnolia State began in December 2014 with the keel laying taking place in June 2015.

All five ships were designed by DSEC, a unit of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) of Busan, South Korea will also have dual-fuel-capable auxiliary engines and the ability to accommodate future installation of an LNG fuel-gas system.
