NAT Expands Fleet with New Tanker

Bermuda-based tanker owner Nordic American Tankers Limited (NAT) took delivery of a Suezmax newbuilding tanker the Nordic Star, built at South Korea’s Sungdong Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

Featuring 158,000 deadweight tons, the vessel, which was named on August 24, will be employed in the tanker market right away, according to the company.

NAT’s second Suezmax newbuilding, the Nordic Space, is currently under construction at the same yard and is expected to be delivered in January next year.

The tankers were ordered from Sungdong in December 2014 for a price of USD 65 million each.

At 84,000 gross tons, the vessels have a length of 277 meters and a width of 48 meters.

NAT has a fleet on the water of 29 Suezmaxes. When delivered, Nordic Space would be the 30th vessel trading for the company.
