National Grid Reduces Capacity of Subsea Cable Between UK and France

Business & Finance

National Grid announces that the 2,000-megawatt subsea power cable between the British and French energy markets will run at half of its capacity between March 1 and roughly June 30, 2012 for valve replacing work.

2012 outage schedule demonstrates that the interconnector’s capability will also be reduced to 1,500 MW for repair between Sept 3-7 and to 1,000 MW between Oct. 8-12.

The cable’s valve replacement work also decreased capability over many weeks during 2011 as procedures lasted longer than anticipated.

National Grid and RTE jointly own the 70-kilometre long cable.
