NCL Cruise Ship Crewman Dies in Lifeboat Accident in Bermuda

One person died and three were injured in an incident which occurred on July 20 during a routine rescue drill onboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Breakaway while the cruise ship was alongside in Bermuda.

The lifeboat reportedly fell during the drill and injured the four crew members who were immediately treated by the ship’s medical team. The injured crew members were then transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment, where one crew member passed away, NCL told World Maritime News.

“Norwegian is profoundly saddened by this loss and we share our deepest sympathies with the crew member’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” NCL said in a statement.

“The company is providing full support and care to those involved and is working closely with the Government of Bermuda and relevant authorities to investigate the incident.”

The 146,000 GRT cruise ship is expected to depart Bermuda as scheduled.
