Neptune wins Ichthys LNG work

Neptune Marine Services of Australia on Friday said it has won a contract for the 350 concrete mattresses to McDermott Australia for the giant Ichthys LNG project. 

According to the company’s statement, the mattresses will be utilised for flowlines walking mitigation on the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG project.

The mattresses will be manufactured at Neptune’s yard in Batam, Indonesia, each weighing approximately 60 tonnes.

Work on the construction of the units commenced in April 2016, Neptune said.

The installation of 140 kilometres of rigid subsea flowlines for the Ichthys LNG project was completed during February, by Heerema’s deepwater construction vessel Aegir, under the contract Heerema Marine Contractors won from McDermott.

The flowlines will carry reservoir fluids from 20 subsea wells at the Ichthys field in the Browse Basin, approximately 220 kilometres offshore Western Australia, to the project’s two floating processing facilities, a central processing facility and floating production storage and offloading facility.

The 8.9 mtpa Ichthys LNG project, that is expected to start production in the third quarter of 2017, is a joint venture between Inpex, major partner Total, CPC Corporation and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.
