New Non-Executive Director Joins BG Group (UK)

BG Group today announced the appointment of Lim Haw-Kuang as a Non-Executive Director with immediate effect.

Lim, 59, fills the vacancy left by Philippe Varin, who stood down from the board in February after almost seven years as a Non-Executive Director with BG Group.

Commenting on the appointment, BG Group Chairman Andrew Gould said: “I am delighted to welcome Haw-Kuang to the BG Group board. He has extensive experience across the international oil and gas industry, including long service as a senior executive in China, the world’s fastest growing energy market.

“This gives him a background highly relevant to BG Group as the Company becomes China’s largest supplier of liquefied natural gas through long-term agreements with CNOOC,”Gould said.

Lim Haw-Kuang is the former Executive Chairman of Shell in China, a company he joined in Malaysia in 1978. He has held roles in information technology, finance, natural gas, exploration and production and oil products.

His previous assignments include Business Development Manager for the Former Soviet Union and Sakhalin, Chairman and Managing Director in Malaysia and International Vice President Corporate Strategy and Planning. He became Executive Chairman in China in 2005.

In 2011, he was honoured by the Beijing Municipal Government with the Great Wall Friendship Award, recognising his contribution to the city.

Mr Lim is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Malaysian conglomerate Sime Darby. He is also Chairman of two of the Company’s business divisions, Sime Darby Energy and Sime Darby Utilities. He studied information technology at Imperial College, University of London, and has a MBA in International Management from the International Management Institute, Geneva.
