NFE charters Golar Arctic for Jamaica LNG project

US-based New Fortress Energy has signed a charter deal to deploy Golar LNG’s Golar Arctic at its liquefied natural gas project in Jamaica.

Under the charter agreement, the 2003-built, 138,500 cbm Golar Arctic will enter service as a floating storage unit (FSU) in Jamaica for a period of two years starting in March 2016, Golar LNG’s recent financial report reveals.

New Fortress Energy, a unit of the Fortress Investment Group, has signed a deal with Jamaica’s energy company JPS for the supply of gas in Augusts last year.

Under the agreement, NFE will provide JPS with LNG to fire the 120-megawat power plant at Bogue, Montego Bay.

The power plant has first been commissioned in 2003 and is being converted to run on gas, according to JPS.
