NIGC Plans to Manufacture Advanced Smart Pigs (Iran)

National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) plans to manufacture advanced smart pigs.

Research and technology director at NIGC, Saeed Pakseresh, made the remarks adding while the U.S, Russia and Germany were the only manufacturers of the product but now Iran has joined the club by making a 30-inch smart pig.

According to the report of the public relations of the NIGC, he said: “Achieving the expertise of making smart pig, has paved the way for making advanced generations of the product.

“Collecting various forms of data, carrying technical inspection, finding gas leakage and internal corrosion are among the capabilities of this smart pig,” he said adding NIGC plans to make more advanced versions of the product in the future.

He stated that manufacturing a smart pig for 56-inch gas pipelines is another step of NIGC in this direction.

Pakseresht added that, the first Iranian made smart PIG has been used along the 110-kilometer, 30 inches gas pipeline between Qom and Arak cities on December 2012.
