The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority, Mallam Habib Abdullahi, has said that the Authority appreciates the role of the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas Company, NLNG, in the Maritime Industry and therefore assured the company of continued mutual relationship, beneficial to both organisations.

Mallam Abdullahi made this declaration while receiving an NLNG Company delegation at his office in Lagos.

He commended the company for its contributions to the development of the nation’s seaports and the maritime industry in general and pledged that the Authority will fulfil its obligations to all stakeholders in the industry.

Represented by the Executive Director, Marine and Operations, Engineer David Omonibeke, the Managing Director assured the delegation that management will soon visit Port facilities in the Bonny Island for on the spot assessment of the situation.

Engineer Omonibeke disclosed that NPA Management is intensifying its plans to ensure an effective succession plan of its ageing marine personnel which includes the pilots as well as the establishment of Vessel Traffic Management Information Services (VTMIS) at Bonny to enhance safety of navigation and protection of the marine environment.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Deputy Managing Director of the company, Mr. Basheer Koko had listed Pilotage, training and certification of pilots, channel management, Jetty maintenance and traffic management, light house management etc., as critical operational issues which NLNG wants NPA to look into in order to ensure smooth operations in Bonny Island.

Nigerian Ports Authority’s role is vital to NLNG operations, he stressed, and the continuous collaboration between the organisations is needed.
