NOC's Professor Wins Fridtjof Nansen Medal (Austria)

Professor Harry Bryden FRS was awarded the 2013 Fridtjof Nansen Medal by the European Geosciences Union during this year’s General Assembly in Austria.

Based at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, Professor Bryden is an Emeritus Professor in Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton.

Professor Bryden was chosen to receive the honour for his “long-term leadership in experimental physical oceanography and in understanding the mechanisms of the general ocean circulation and heat transport.”

The medal is awarded annually for “distinguished research in oceanography” by the Division on Ocean Sciences of the European Geosciences Union.

EGU’s 2013 General Assembly took place 7-13 April in Vienna.
