Nordergründe Offshore Substation Leaves Bremerhaven

An offshore substation built for the Nordergründe offshore wind farm has been loaded onto a barge in Bremerhaven and is en route to the installation site in the German North Sea.

Wpd, the developer of the 111MW project, postponed the commissioning of the project, initially scheduled for late 2016, after BVT, the company in charge of building the substation, entered insolvency in the third quarter of 2016.

The remaining works on the substation were carried out by several sub-contractors, with GE/Alstom delivering the HV/MV equipment, Muehlhan doing the coating, and Stahlbau Nord finalising the steel works.

The commissioning of the wind farm is now expected by the end of 2017.

MPI Offshore’s wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) MPI Enterprise completed the installation of 18 6.2M126 Senvion turbines at the wind farm located some 15 kilometres north-east of the island of Wangerooge in December 2016.
