Norway: Aldous/Avaldsnes Discovery Renamed to Johan Sverdrup

The Aldous/Avaldsnes discovery has been renamed Johan Sverdrup.  The Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Ola Borten Moe, announced the new name during an industry conference in Sandefjord.

The name is intended to reflect the importance of this project in specific, and the oil and gas industry in general. Johan Sverdrup was the leader of the political movement that led the introduction of a parliamentary system in Norway and is an important symbol of the emergence of a democratic Norway. He was the first Prime Minister of Norway after the introduction of parliamentarism. Sverdrup was Prime Minister from 1884 to 1889.
