Norway: ConocoPhillips Allowed to Work on Ekofisk with Maersk Gallant Rig


The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has given ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS (COPSAS) consent to carry out well work on Ekofisk 2/4 Bravo with the mobile drilling facility Mærsk Gallant.

The consent covers plugging and drilling of a sidetrack from an existing production well.

According to the application, the plan is to start work in September. The operation is expected to have a total duration of approx. 140 days.

Water depth at the site is 74 metres.

The Ekofisk field is located in the southern part of the North Sea. The field is part of production licence 018, where COPSAS is the operator with an ownership interest of 35.112 per cent. The other licensees are Total E&P Norge AS (39.896 per cent), Eni Norge AS (12.388 per cent), Statoil Petroleum AS (7.604 per cent) and Petoro AS (5.000 per cent).

The Mærsk Gallant is operated by Maersk Contractors Norge A/S. The facility received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in August 2002.
