Norway: Eniram Brings Business Intelligence to Ship Operators at Nor-Shipping

Eniram Ltd, provider of dynamic decision support systems for the shipping industry, is today presenting at Nor-Shipping its analysis of trends in the maritime industry for interpreting data from vessels with a view to improving both environmental and financial performance.

The cruise sector, in particular, has been at the forefront of driving the uptake of technology that tackles the ongoing issue of reducing operating costs in the face of increasing environmental regulations. However, Eniram is seeing a distinct rise in interest and sales from other sectors including the container, tanker and bulk carrier markets.

Philip Padfield, CEO, Eniram, says: “Decision support software for ship operators, provided by companies such as Eniram, has experienced a growth of interest over recent years. We can now overcome the challenges faced by ship operators by collecting and analysing data, and translating it into real savings and increased efficiencies.

“There have been huge advances in performance monitoring and operators can now rely on our solutions to understand their vessel performance, identify performance lulls, and get a holistic view for efficient fleet management. By these means they can, for example, monitor the power decomposition of a vessel, understand the effect of drag changes due to fouling and make operational decisions such as which vessel to use on a certain route.”

Eniram is seeing an emerging trend amongst mature customers who are transitioning from individual vessel optimisation towards much longer-term decision support, with an opportunity of up to 10 percent fuel savings due to changes in operational behaviour. Operators are gaining greater benefits from a combination of individual vessel and fleet performance.

The analysis is proving particularly beneficial in meeting environmental objectives, as Henrik Dahl, CTO, Eniram explains. “Vessel operators can now use software to align their operational needs with their environmental goals as they can pinpoint energy losses and from there take the necessary corrective actions. But whether its financial or environmental imperatives, decision support software benefits the performance of both – bringing dual benefits to operators.”

Eniram recently signed a five-year agreement with a major international cruise ship company. The agreement came about after recognising the benefits afforded by decision support software across the entire fleet, which aims to provide two percent savings in propulsion power with Eniram’s Dynamic Trimming Assistant and an additional two percent in savings by reducing the energy consuming factors disrupting the optimum speed of vessels.
