Norway: Harsh Weather Hampers Yme MOPUstor Productivity

Harsh Weather Hampers Yme MOPUstor Productivity

SBM Offshore, a provider of detailed engineering, procurement and construction services (“EPC”) to the offshore oil and gas industry, says that productivity of work currently being performed on the MOPUstor platform on Norwegian field Yme has been significantly impacted over recent months, among other factors, by exceptionally poor weather conditions in the North Sea and the resulting inability of the client supplied accommodation vessel to remain on station next to the platform.

SBM Offshore is investigating with its client the appropriate response to these circumstances and evaluating the related schedule and cost impacts.

The MOPUstor, developed by GustoMSC, provides a solution for short life oil fields without direct access to pipeline infrastructure in water depths and environment not suitable for an FPSO. This MOPUstor concept consists of a steel storage tank supported directly on the sea bed, three (or four) tubular legs, firmly connected to the storage tank, a barge type platform deck that can be jacked along the legs and a jacking system.
