Norway: Maersk Pens Contract with LOTOS for Maersk Guardian

Maersk Drilling has signed a contract with LOTOS Exploration & Production Norway AS, for the ultra harsh environment jack-up rig MAERSK GUARDIAN for work on the 7/8-7 well offshore Norway.

It is a one-well contract with an estimated duration of 55 days. Commencement is scheduled for the third quarter of 2012.

“This is the first contract we sign with Lotos Exploration & Production Norge AS and we are very pleased to expand our Norwegian customer base. The new operators we have seen establish themselves in Norway over the past years confirm our positive outlook for this market,” says Claus V. Hemmingsen, CEO of Maersk Drilling and member of the Executive Board of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group.

MAERSK GUARDIAN is one of two sister rigs of the Hitachi Zosen design in Maersk Drilling’s fleet. The rig is built for operation in ultra harsh environments such as the Norwegian North Sea and was recently refurbished at the Port of Hirtshals, Denmark, where among others a new 18 ¾ BOP, skidable texas deck and a new drillers cabin were installed.
