Norway: Wintershall Ready to Drill Skarfjell Well

In parallel to drilling the appraisal well in the Maria field, Wintershall Norge is now operating another drilling project in Norway.

The Skarfjell exploration well in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea will provide information as to the potential hydrocarbon reserves in that area. It is planned to drill around 2,800 meters into the ground. The water depth is around 340 meters.

Skarfjell is located in the Wintershall-operated PL 418 license and is in the immediate vicinity of the Grosbeak discovery. Large amounts of oil and gas are already produced in this area.

As operator, Wintershall holds a 45 percent stake in the project. Partners are Agora Oil & Gas AS (20 percent), Bayerngas Norge AS (20 percent) and Edison International Norway Branch (15 percent).
