Norwegian Oil Minister Participates at CSLF Conference in China

Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Mr. Borten Moe, is participating at the CSLF conference held in Beijing this week.

– The world needs more energy in order to lift more people out of poverty. At the same time it is our common responsibility to make sure that the increased energy consumption is sustainable. All of us who are here today will follow up on this responsibility and extend the cooperation on CCS. I would like to thank China for hosting this very important conference and for their valuable contribution during today’s discussions, says Minister of Petroleum and Energy Ola Borten Moe.

Mr. Borten Moe is invited by the Chinese and American Ministers who are co- hosts of this conference. This is an international forum and Norway is one of 24 member states. The main topic is “Collaborating for a Decade of Reserach, Demonstration, and Deployment on CCS”. No bilateral meetings with Chinese counterparts have been scheduled during the conference.

Questions concerning carbon capture and storage (CCS) are of great importance to the Norwegian government, and are also important to follow up on in international forums. CSLF is an arena to further develop the cooperation concerning these issues on all levels. The meeting in Beijing is the fourth ministerial meeting. The last meeting took place in London in 2009, with Norway and UK as co-hosts.

Norway is cooperating with China in the areas of energy, oil and gas. This conference will contribute to strengthening the dialog on CCS.
