Russia’s largest independent natural gas producer, Novatek has shipped three million tonnes of liquefied natural gas from the Yamal LNG project since December last year.

Yamal LNG reached the third millionth ton shipped on the 41st cargo loaded from the first LNG train, a Novatek statement said on Monday.

The company added that the summer navigational period commenced on the Northern Sea Route in July, allowing it to deploy its Arc7 ice-class LNG carriers to deliver cargoes to the Asian-Pacific countries.

The Arctic tankers can traverse the route without ice-breaking support, and Novatek does not require the utilization of LNG carriers with the lower ice-class designation.
