OLT Offshore unloads peak shaving LNG cargo

OLT Offshore LNG Toscana completed the discharge of liquefied natural gas set for the peak shaving services on December 30, 2017.

Around 127.500 cubic meters of LNG were discharged by the LNG carrier Methane Kari Elin, with a cargo capacity of 138.267 cubic meters, OLT Offshore said in a statement.

The operation follows the tender launched by OLT as a part of the procedure for the peak shaving service awarded on November 22, 2017.

The LNG, stored in the terminal tanks, will be available until March 31, 2018.

“The LNG discharged for the peak shaving service comes from Trinidad and Tobago,” OLT said.

The terminal can receive the 83 percent of the LNG produced by the liquefaction plants in the world. Moreover, it can receive LNG carriers up to the 90 percent of the world fleet.

“Thus, thanks to its flexibility, the terminal has so far received LNG from 9 different countries, Algeria, Nigeria, Norway, Holland, Peru, Qatar, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, USA, contributing to ensure the security of supply and diversification of sources,” the statement reads.

Under the peak shaving service, the volumes delivered will be made available to Snam Rete Gas from January 1 to March 31, 2018.

OLT Offshore LNG Toscana set up from the association of Iren Group (49.07 percent), Uniper Global Commodities (48.24 percent) and Golar LNG (2.69 percent), owns and manages the floating regasification Terminal FSRU Toscana.

The terminal, moored about 22 km off the coasts between Livorno and Pisa, is connected to the national grid through a 36.5 km long pipeline, operated and managed by Snam Rete Gas, of which: about 29.5 km at sea, 5 km in the floodway and the remaining 2 km on dry land.

At full capacity, FSRU Toscana has a regasification capacity of 3.75 billion cubic meters a year, about 4 percent of the national requirement.
