India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has, on July 19, 2014, issued a status report regarding the gas leakage in Mumbai offshore.

The company has reported that, on 19th July 2014, early in the morning, the operation on the drilling rig Sagar Uday has been stopped for safety reasons due to reports of a gas flow observed from the outermost casing annulus.

The rig was operating at NS platform in Mumbai High North on well number NSBX for side-tracking and has reached a depth of around 1183 meters.

The company said that forty-eight persons have been evacuated to nearby installations.

“Five vessels including two Multi-Support Vessels are on the location for any immediate support. Crisis Management Team (CMT) of ONGC is on site. The preparation of plugging the leak is in progress. International expert from Boots & Coots has been mobilised,” the company stated in the report.
