Operation at Hanjin Incheon Container Terminal Kicks Off

Hanjin Incheon Container Terminal (HJIT), the second container terminal of Incheon New Port in Korea has opened today, 18^th March 2016 with the arrival of Hanjin Mexico containership, Incheon Port Authority announced.

The Hanjin Mexico, which is the first-calling-vessel at HIJT, sails on the weekly Korea-Philippines-Indonesia service which covers Korea (IncheonㆍBusan), China, Singapore, and Indonesia starting from Manila in the Philippines.

According to Yoo Chang Keun, president of IPA, the opening of Hanjin Incheon Container Terminal represents a new beginning for the Incheon New Port, adding that the new terminal will help the port achieve their annual target of 2.5M TEU.

Up to now, HJIT has opened 4 routes connecting China and Southeast Asia. The terminal is equipped with five rail mounted quayside cranes which can handle 22 container rows, container terminal yard of 7 rows, and fourteen automated rail mount gantry cranes which enable handling of 5-tiered and 9 rows.

The new terminal has allowed the port to handle large container vessels loading 12,000TEU.

Before construction of Incheon New Port, Incheon Port used to be ranked the 60th in the world accommodating maximum 4,000 TEU class vessels. However,  IPA has an ambitious plan to accomplish 4.5M TEU container handling volume in 2025 and to jump up to the 30th port in the world by boosting Incheon New Port’s capacity.
