Origin Energy Struggling to Abandon Vietnamese Offshore Well

Origin Energy’s Vietnamese subsidiary, Origin Energy (Song Hong) Pte Limited is struggling to wrap-up plug and abandonment operation in Vietnamese waters.

Origin,  the operator of the Block 121 Production Sharing Contract, offshore Vietnam, has informed that abandonment of the 121-CV-1X exploration well drilled using the “Ocean General”  semi-submersible drilling rig is still underway.

“This has taken longer than planned due to operational challenges, and a further update will be provided when the abandonment has been completed,” said the company in a drilling update release.

On release the rig will relocate to Vietnam Block 07/03 to spud the CRD-3X appraisal well. The 121-CV-1X well is located in the Phu Khanh Basin off the coast of central Vietnam.

The company last month disclosed that the well, which was targeting the large Whale (Ca Voi) prospect, found sandstones in the main objective sequence prognosed as of Oligocene age, but no hydrocarbons were discovered.

Participating interests in Block 121 are: Origin Energy (Song Hong) Pte. Ltd 45%, Premier Oil Vietnam 121 Ltd 40% and Pan Pacific Petroleum Vietnam (121) Pty Ltd 15%.
