Orwell Offshore orders FPSO turret from Drydocks

Equipment

Dubai’s Drydocks World has won a contract Orwell Offshore to fabricate an external Turret for FPSO Layang. The project is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2016.

According to Drydocks World, the external turret for Orwell Offshore will deliver significant improvements in operational effectiveness and weathervaning capabilities on FPSO Layang, enabling FPSO operations in water depths of up to 90m. Weathervaning is a process by which a floating structure passively varies its heading in response to time-varying environmental actions.

As for the FPSO itself, it will be deployed at the JX Nippon-operated Layang field, offshore Malaysia. Oil production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2016.
