Osaka Gas said in a statement the planned facilities are scheduled to commence operations in 2023.

Recently, in Taiwan, imports of LNG have increased drastically due to the government policy of stopping all nuclear power plants by 2025, Osaka Gas said.

In order to handle the increase in import volumes, Taiwan is looking to set up sufficient LNG importing capacity.

As a response, CPC is planning to construct a third LNG receiving terminal capable of handling 6 million tons of the chilled fuel per year. The first phase of the project, the LNG terminal would have a 3 mtpa import capacity.

Osaka Gas Engineering has been contracted to provide the design, and construction consulting services for CPC’s third LNG terminal.

In addition, Taiwan Power plans to construct a dedicated LNG terminal with 4.1 mtpa capacity together with a new power plant in the Taichung district. Osaka Gas Engineering has been contracted to provide the basic design for the facility and the LNG storage tank.

Osaka Gas noted that with this contract it will be providing the basic design for all the LNG import facilities currently being planned or under construction in Taiwan.
