OutSmart to Open First German Offshore Wind Operations Centre

OutSmart to Open First German Offshore Wind Operations Centre

OutSmart opens the first offshore wind Operations Centre for the German market in Emden at the end of this year. The operations centre will be manned 24/7 to operate offshore wind farms in the German North Sea and coordinate all maintenance and logistic activities. Launching customer is Trianel for wind farm Borkum West II that is currently under construction.

“OutSmart’s Offshore Operations Centre in Emden fills in the requirements of all operational aspects of our Borkum West II Offshore wind park”, says Mr. K. Horstick, managing director of Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum West II. Besides BW II, two other offshore wind farms are operational in the German North Sea and more than twenty projects have acquired BSH (Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency) approval.

OutSmart, an independent service provider for the complete lifecycle of wind farms, is the first independent company to open an offshore operations centre for the German market. The company developed specific IT solutions to suit the needs of offshore wind operations, maintenance and logistics, which will be incorporated in the operations centre. These IT solutions are suitable for a wide range of wind farm specific control systems

Mr. D. Schiricke, managing director of OutSmart Asset Management: “Our dedicated team and our IT systems enable us to coordinate different wind farms with different control systems at the same time.”

The building offers sufficient space to serve several wind farms. Construction starts this summer and the operations centre will be fully operational before the end of this year.

Emden is a town and seaport in the northwest of Germany and is being used for the majority of the helicopter flights to the German offshore wind farms in the North Sea. Because of the strategic location, harbour facilities and heliport, Emden is also selected by several offshore wind turbines manufacturers for their service activities.

Mr. R. Edzards, managing director Flugplatz Emden GmbH: “Airport Emden wants to extend the logistic activities for the Offshore Wind Industry. Airport Emden therefore facilitates companies like OutSmart, whose activities are in line with this strategy.”
