Pakistan’s imports reach one million tons of LNG

Excelerate Energy’s 150,900 cbm FSRU Exquisite, chartered by Engro Elengy, serving as an LNG import terminal in Pakistan’s Port Qasim has by the end of December received around one million tons of chilled gas.

Syed Mohammad Ali, CEO at Engro Elengy Terminal Pakistan, said on Wednesday, that the terminal received 17 cargoes and reached an 88 percent utilization level, Pakistan’s The News reports.

Pakistan contracted 1.5 million tons of LNG to be imported in the first year.

Ali noted that in order to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of natural gas, Pakistan should set up three or four additional import terminals.

Pakistan, that has recently been struck by power shortages, plans to add some 3,600-megawatt LNG-fired power production capacity which would further increase demand.
