Pertamina looking for LNG supply from US

Pertamina of Indonesia is looking to increase its LNG supply from the US.

World’s fourth-largest LNG exporter, Indonesia will increase its imports to 3-3.5 tons of LNG per year by 2020, in a push to secure the increasing demand for liquefied natural gas for power generation, Pertamina’s vice president of LNG Didik Sasongko Widi told Reuters.

The company is in the process of negotiating a deal to buy 1 million tons of additional LNG per year and to buy a stake in a U.S. shale gas producers whose name remained undisclosed.

Due to the decline in domestic gas reserves the company has been redirecting export volumes to the domestic market. According to Didik, by 2018 the country will have to import gas, as the administration already doesn’t allow new exports.
