Peru ships first LNG cargo in 2017

Peru’s natural gas liquefaction and export facility at Pampa Melchorita shipped its first LNG cargo of 2017 last week.

According to data released by the state-owned Perupetro, the 160,118-cbm Kita LNG carrier loaded a cargo on January 5 and set course to Spain.

The exact destination of the LNG carrier built in 2014 by the South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering has not been revealed.

This is the second cargo Kita LNG loaded at the Peruvian facility. The first cargo it loaded in October last year was delivered to the Bilbao LNG terminal in Spain.

According to the AIS data provided by the vessel tracking website, MarineTraffic, Kita LNG is currently at anchor off Panama, set to make its way through the expanded Panama Canal.

With the latest cargo, Peru’s LNG export facility shipped 375 vessels in total, since it started operations in June 2010.

The 4.45 million tons per year gas liquefaction plant is located 170 kilometers south of Lima and receives gas via a 408-kilometer pipeline built across the Andes.
