Peter Döhle and Sirius Start Crew Management JV in the Philippines

German shipping company Peter Döhle Schiffahrts KG and Genoa-based Sirius Ship Management have joined forces to provide recruitment, training and career development to the Filipino seafarers in Manila.

Peter Döhle Schiffahrts has already invested in an ETCC (European Training and Competence Centre) in the Philippines, which was established in Manila in 2011. Presently, the ETCC annually sees a number of more than 1,000 course-participants and around 2,000 Pre-Embarkation-Trainees.

”This cooperation is very exciting, starting from the determination to manage the market and not be managed by it, to go over the present crisis period that the shipping sector is experiencing, like many others. It is not a secret that skilled and trained crew, grown up inside the Company with the sense of Company belonging are the real key of a successful management of the vessels,” said Roy Machart, General Manager of Peter Döhle Group.

This partnership will cover all activities related to the management, recruitment and training of several thousands of Filipino crew members who, together with seafarers from India, are the majority of the sailing community of the worldwide shipping industry.

“The Philippines is one of the largest seafarers’ basins, if not the greatest in the world, so it can ensure, at least for certain types of vessels, an important synergy if matching with the training of Italian personnel, sharing on board the same problems with a common Company’s approach,” said Filippo Guadagna, CEO of Sirius Ship Management.
