Petrobras production rises in July

Brazil’s state-run oil company Petrobras reported its average oil and natural gas production rose 1.8% in July compared to the previous month and reached 2.796 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed).

The Company produced 2.746 million boed in June. Production is up 3.6% on July 2014 (2.699 million boed).

On July 8, Petrobras set a new daily oil production record in the pre-salt layer: 865,000 barrels per day (bpd). This production does not include natural gas extraction. Monthly production was 798,000 bpd, 6.9% higher than the existing record for June.

Oil and gas production in Brazil

Petrobras’ total oil and natural gas production in Brazil was 2.611 million boed, 2.3% up on the previous month (2.553 million boed).

Oil production (not including natural gas) was 2.142 million barrels (bpd), 2.6% up on the 2.088 million bpd produced in June. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Petrobras said that the increase reflected new wells coming on stream at platforms P-58, in the Parque das Baleias field, and P-62, in the Roncador field, both located in the Campos Basin; and on the FPSO Cidade of Mangaratiba, anchored in Iracema Sul, in the Santos pre-salt basin. FPSO is an acronym for a Floating production, storage and offloading unit.

Also, as announced by Petrobras on July 31, the FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí came on stream in Iracema Norte, which is located in the Lula field in the Santos pre-salt basin. This new unit has the capacity to process 150,000 barrels of oil and 8 million m³ of gas per day.

Natural gas production in Brazil, excluding liquefied natural gas, was 74.524 million m³/day, 0.9% up on the total production in June (73.886 million m³/day).

Oil and gas Production abroad

Abroad, 184,600 barrels of oil equivalent were produced, 4.2% down on the 192,700 boed produced in June, mainly due to the scheduled shutdown of the platform in the St.Malo field, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Oil production was 95,900 barrels per day, 5.9% down on the 101,900 bpd produced in June and the average production of natural gas was 15.1 million m³/day, 2% down on the previous month’s production, which was 15.4 million m³/day.
