Petronet LNG-chartered Prachi loading Gorgon cargo

The brand new LNG carrier Prachi, chartered by India’s Petronet LNG, docked on Tuesday at the Chevron-operated Gorgon LNG plant on Barrow Island in Western Australia.

The 173,000-cbm LNG carrier was delivered less than two months ago to India LNG Transport, a consortium comprising of Japan’s NYK, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, and “K” Line, and the Shipping Corporation of India.

The 295-meter vessel joined Petronet LNG’s fleet as its fourth chartered vessel. The Prachi will transport the chilled fuel from the giant Gorgon facility to India under a 20-year deal Petronet has with Chevron.

Shipping data on the Chevron Australia website shows that the Prachi is expected to leave the Gorgon jetty on Thursday.

To remind, U.S.-based energy giant Chevron has earlier this month resumed production at the first liquefaction train of the Gorgon LNG plant following a shutdown in late November 2016.

Production at the Gorgon LNG project has been hit several times last year since it shipped its first cargo of the chilled fuel on March 21.

Once in full production, the three-train plant on Barrow Island is expected to have a capacity of 15.6 million mt/year.

The Gorgon LNG project is operated by Chevron that owns a 47.3 percent stake, while other shareholders are ExxonMobil (25 percent), Shell (25 percent), Osaka Gas (1.25 percent), Tokyo Gas (1 percent) and Chubu Electric Power (0.417 percent).
