PGNiG to secure more U.S. LNG supplies

More U.S.-produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) could be landing in Poland as state-owned PGNiG entered talks to import more volumes, president’s senior advisor, Krzysztof Szczerski said. 

Poland has set its sights on diversifying its gas supply since the Lech Kaczyński LNG terminal in Świnoujście started operation, and is also looking to secure economic benefits, Reuters reports Szczerski as saying.

The talks regarding the supply of U.S. LNG to central and eastern Europe will be discussed during the president Trump’s meeting with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda.

Piotr Naimski, Polish government’s energy official in June said new agreements for LNG supplies from the United States to Europe could be signed following president Trump’s visit.

Poland has already received a cargo from the United States when Polish Gas and Oil Company (PGNiG) bought the spot cargo from Cheniere.

The 162,000-cbm Clean Ocean arrived at the Lech Kaczyński LNG terminal in Świnoujście on June 7.

Polish first LNG terminal operated by the Polish gas transmission operator Gaz-System’s unit Polskie LNG, is Poland’s flagship project to diversify gas supplies and reduce dependence on pipeline imports from Russia.

Gaz-System has earlier this year made a decision to expand the plant’s capacity to 7.5 billion cubic meters per year instead of the current 5 bcm/y.
