Philippines Eyes LNG from Canada, Brunei

The Department of Energy (DOE) of Philippines is working on securing LNG supply from Canada and Brunei but would have to study first a pricing scheme that would translate to lower gas rates for the consumers, The Philippine Star reported, citing Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla as saying.

“The Malampaya deep water-to-gas field in northwest Palawan would eventually be depleted by 2020 which is why the country needs to find other sources of natural gas,” he said.

“I want to get involved in the pricing scheme for LNG. We have no facility now so I want to find out where we are in terms of pricing,” he added.
