Philly Shipyard lays keel for APT’s first LNG-ready tanker

Philly Shipyard informed it held the keel laying ceremony for the first LNG-ready product tanker for American Petroleum Tankers (APT), a Kinder Morgan subsidiary.

The vessel, that is expected to be completed at the end of this year will be 600 feet long and capable of carrying 50,000 tons of crude oil or refined petroleum products, Philly Shipyard said in a statement.

The newbuild is the first of four vessels APT ordered at Philly Shipyard.

The Tier II 50,000 dead weight ton (dwt) product tankers are based on the Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) and will be constructed with consideration for the use of LNG for propulsion in the future.
