PHOTO: Jan de Nul Wraps Up Cable Repair Off Iceland

Jan de Nul has completed the cable repair job between Westman Island and the main land of Iceland in less than one month, the company informed through social media.

The company was hired to conduct the repair by the Icelandic electrical transmission company Landsnet.

The cable repair was undertaken during the month of June utilizing the cable installation vessel Isaac Newton, which was mobilized from Canada to Europe.

Isaac Newton vessel is 138 meters long and 32 meters wide, with deadweight of 13,436 tonnes and is equipped for installing subsea cables, trench dredging and subsea rock installation.

The vessel arrived in the port of Westman on June 04 where the loading of the spare cable, used to repair the 66kV, 3-phase subsea cable, started immediately.

The repair was initiated by picking up the broken cable from a water depth of about 50 meters.
