DEME Group said in its latest post that their dual fuel (diesel and LNG) trailing suction hopper dredger ‘Minerva’ is conducting sand renourishing works at the Belgian coast in Nieuwpoort.

These shoreline reinforcement works are combined with maintenance dredging works in the access channel to the Port of Ostend, DEME said.

In the shallow waters along the coastline, the rainbowing technique is used to discharge dredged sediments.

To make the access to the Port of Ostend safer and allow for larger vessels to call at the port, the Flemish government decided to widen and straighthen the fairway.

The TSHD Minerva, launched on December 3rd 2016, at Royal IHC’s shipyard in Kinderdijk, is the first vessel of this kind in the world.

This vessel is equipped with 80cm suction tube, suitable for dredging to a depth of 30m.
