Pipeline Installation in SP Phase-19 Complete, Iran

The implementation and installation of the first 32-inch offshore pipeline of phase-19 of South Pars energy zone, Bushehr province, was completed successfully, said the manager of the project.

Hamidreza Masoudi said the pipeline laying for transferring gas produced in offshore platforms was completed by Iranian specialists within two months, IRNA reported. He said the pipeline extends over 115 kilometers.

Phase-19 is the first project of the South Pars in which the offshore pipe laying started earlier to develop offshore projects and promptly extract gas reserves, he added.

The pipeline laying of the first route for transferring ethylene glycol from refinery to offshore platforms had been completed earlier.

“Also, all the equipment and commodities required for construction of the offshore pipelines have been supplied domestically,” the official said.

Implementation of the offshore part of the phase-19 of the South Pars has seen a favorable progress, he added.

South Pars gas field is one of the largest independent gas reservoirs in the world located on the territorial border between Iran and Qatar in the Persian Gulf. It is one of the country’s main energy resources.

The gas field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3700 square kilometers belong to Iran. The Iranian portion is estimated to contain some 14 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves. This amounts to roughly 8 percent of the world gas reserves and approximately half of Iran’s gas reserves.

Presently, some precise and sophisticated projects have been designed for development of 24 phases to produce 820 million cubic meters of gas per day.

South Pars gas field development shall meet the growing demands of natural gas, injection into oil fields, gas and condensate export as feedstock for petrochemical industries.
