Poland targeting North American LNG supplies

Gaz-System’s chief executive, Jan Chadam, was reported saying that the company is eyeing North American LNG supplies for its under-construction terminal in Świnoujście.

According to Chadam, Gaz-System is negotiating with three potential suppliers. As he told Reuters negotiations are ongoing with one Canadian and two US suppliers of LNG.

The deals are future prospects, 2018, 2019 at the earliest, said Chadam, noting that this is the period when the American LNG export terminals will start operations. This coincides with the start-up of the north-south corridor.

The initial imports of LNG to Świnoujście will come from Qatar, when the terminal starts up in 2015, reducing Poland’s dependence on Russian gas.
