Port of Antwerp closes in on LNG bunkering station

Following the completion of the LNG Master Plan project, Belgium’s Port of Antwerp moved closer to setting up the permanent LNG bunkering station for barges.

According to the Port of Antwerp’ statement issued on Wednesday, a concession agreement for the LNG bunkering station is due to be signed at the beginning of 2016.

All necessary work has already been completed resulting in environmental and construction permits for the permanent bunkering facility.

Barges have been using the port’s existing facilities enabling truck-to-ship bunkering since 2012. In September this year the first seagoing vessel, the Sefarina, bunkered at the facility.

Port of Antwerp anticipates the permanent LNG bunkering facility will be operational in 2017.
