Port of Melbourne: Port Capacity Grows (Australia)

Port Capacity Grows

Increased container handling capacity for the Port of Melbourne was announced by the Victorian Government today.

Redevelopment of areas of the port by Port of Melbourne Corporation will enable the port to meet an ever increasing trade demand and protect the economic future of Australia’s premier freight gateway.

Highlights:

– Webb Dock will resume being a container handling terminal capable of processing the equivalent of one million containers a year.

– At Swanson Dock, currently Melbourne’s container hub and the country’s busiest container terminal, there will be opportunities for enhancing capacity expansion.

– Traffic management initiatives, project-specific environmental controls and ongoing community consultation are included.
